Performance
Land Rover Defender

Both SUVs offer multiple engine options, but when you need tons of power to bowl over the toughest obstacles, the Land Rover Defender has it. Its available 5.0L P252 V8 gas engine kicks out 518 horsepower. That overpowers the 2.7L EcoBoost®, available with the Bronco. It tops out at 315 horsepower.

All-Terrain Performance

Capability comes standard with these SUVs. They're both equally capable in off-road conditions, but you'll find the all-wheel-drive system of the Defender is also sure-footed on slick roads, while the traditional 4-wheel drive of the Bronco is only ideal for off-roading. You'll also get a variety of off-road performance features with both models. They include:

  • Selectable drive modes
  • Off-road cruise control
  • Off-road suspension
  • Front-view trail camera

The standard selectable drive modes are among the most impressive features equipped with these SUVs. They help the vehicle adapt to the trail that lies ahead. The Terrain Response® 2 with Dynamic Program system of the Defender goes one step further than the Terrain Management System™ in the Bronco—it can automatically select the ideal drive mode.

Interior
Land Rover Defender

If you're bringing along a whole team of fellow explorers, you'll want the Land Rover Defender by your side. When equipped with the optional third row, it can accommodate up to seven passengers. The Ford Bronco only has a maximum seating capacity of five passengers.

Adventure-Ready Interiors

Both vehicles will keep you comfortable when you're out and about, but you'll find the interior of the Defender has an extra luxurious touch. It offers the following amenities:

  • Windsor leather upholstery
  • 14-way front seats
  • Cooled front seats
  • Panoramic sunroof

You'll get an infotainment system with all the fixings in either SUV. You'll be able to sync up your smartphone with ease, but when your favorite tune comes on, you'll want to be in the Defender. It can be equipped with a 14-speaker Meridian™ Surround Sound System. The available B&O Sound System by Bang & Olufsen in the Bronco only comes with 10 speakers.

Off-Road
Land Rover Defender

These SUVs are designed for off-road adventures. This starts with impressive ground clearance. However, with up to 11.4 inches of maximum ground clearance in the Defender, you can conquer tougher terrains easily. The Bronco tops off at 13.1 inches.

Off-Road Geometry

The Land Rover Defender also has a superior departure angle of 40 degrees that helps when climbing off tall obstacles. The Ford Bronco only has a departure angle of 37 degrees on its standard 4-door model.

When a stream or standing water gets in your way, the Ford Bronco has a standard wading depth of 33.5 inches. That's almost but not quite as impressive as the Land Rover Defender. It comes in with a standard wading depth of 35.4 inches. The Defender also offers Wade Sensing, a technology that alerts you when the water is too deep.

How do these SUVs match up on towing? The Ford Bronco can only manage to tow up to 4,500 pounds. If you want to tow with confidence, go with the Defender. It can haul up to 7,716 pounds, so you can bring your travel trailer along with ease.
